Optimized Dashboard Performance in Bold BI 5.2
Our latest release of Bold BI®, version 5.2, prioritized data handling and greatly improved performance. You can now render huge numbers of data points in dashboards even faster.
In this blog, I am going to show you the improvements in performance introduced by Bold BI 5.2. The following are the areas that have the most improvement in dashboard performance:
SQL data source
Here is a table showcasing the loading time for the initial load of a dashboard before and after the latest release (5.2).
| Before version 5.2 | After version 5.2 | Difference |
| Average time taken: 24 seconds | Average time taken: 9 seconds | 15 seconds |
Note: This time may vary based on the data-fetch process that depends on the data server.
Rendering 2 million records of SQL data in a Bold BI dashboard now takes an average of just nine seconds.
Let’s look at dashboard examples for Bold BI version 5.1 and 5.2 to see the improved performance for SQL data sources.
Before version 5.2
After version 5.2
Extracting PostgreSQL data
Here is a table showcasing the loading performance during the initial load of a dashboard before and after the latest release (5.2).
| Before version 5.2 | After version 5.2 | Difference |
| Average time taken: 26 seconds | Average time taken: 12 seconds | 14 seconds |
Note: This time may vary based on the data-fetch process that depends on the data server.
The performance improvement for extracting 2 million records of PostgreSQL data from the servers takes the time required from an average of 26 seconds to 12 seconds.
Let’s see dashboard examples for before and after version 5.2 to see the improved performance in extracting data.

Live web data sources
Here is a table showcasing the initial loading times for a dashboard connecting to a live web data source before and after the latest release (5.2).
| In design mode | In view mode | |
| Before version 5.2 | Average time taken: 10 seconds | Average time taken: 12 seconds |
| After version 5.2 | Average time: 2 seconds | Average time: 10 seconds |
Note: This time may vary based on the data-fetch process that depends on the data server.
Connecting to a live web data source in the dashboard design mode and loading data has been improved from 10 to 2 seconds for rendering 5,000 records. The view mode loading time has been improved from 12 seconds to 10 seconds for rendering 5,000 records.
Let’s see some dashboard examples from before and after version 5.2 to see the improved performance in design and view modes.

Dashboard rendering improvements (no data cache)
Here is a table showcasing the initial loading of a dashboard before and after the latest release (5.2) with the data cache disabled in version 5.2 (there was no data cache before this version).
| Before version 5.2 | After version 5.2 Cache disabled | Difference |
| Average time taken: 21.15 seconds | Average time taken: 18.47 seconds | 2.68 seconds |
Note: This time may vary based on the data-fetch process that depends on the data server.
With this release’s improvements, the dashboard generation time has been reduced by 2.68 seconds, which lets you render 1.5 MB of SQL data in 18.47 seconds.
Let’s look at the dashboard examples for before and after version 5.2 to see the improved performance.
Before 5.2
After 5.2
With data cache
| Before version 5.2 | After version 5.2 (data cache enabled) | Difference |
| Average time taken: 21.15 seconds | Average time for first time rendering: 19.71 seconds | (First time rendering) 1.44 seconds |
| Average time taken when loading data from cache: 9.80 seconds | (Rendering from cache) 11.35 seconds |
Note: This time may vary based on the data-fetch process that depends on the data server.
With the data cache on, the initial rendering time of a dashboard with 1.5 MB of SQL data has been reduced from 21.15 to 19.71 seconds. The loading time has been reduced by an entire 11.35 seconds when loading from the new data cache.
Let’s look at dashboard examples for before and after the version 5.2 release to see the improved loading performance.
